(August 2023 - Present)
I am currently a graduate research assistant in the Impulse lab under the direction of Dr. Sarah Fischer. I am continuing to examine sociocultural factors that influence the development and maintenance of eating disorders and body image concerns, especially in child and adolescent populations. My recent projects focus on traumatic life events and eating disorder development in children, associations of BPD symptoms and eating disorder diagnoses, and a longitudinal assessment of PTSD and eating disorders in young adults.
Past Research Experiences:
(August 2021 - May 2023)
I was an undergraduate research assistant in the Body Image, Sexuality, and Health Lab (BISH Lab) under the direction of Dr. Aaron J. Blashill (bishlab.sdsu.edu/), and under the mentorship of Clinical Psychology Doctoral Candidate, Alexandra D. Convertino. I was involved in research projects that studied factors of eating disorder development in children, Muscularity-oriented disordered eating and muscle-building behaviors in college students, EMA of trauma and eating disorder pathology/behaviors, and tDCS as a treatment for body image concerns.
(June 2021 - August 2021)
I completed an internship as a Research Assistant under Dr. Audrey Beck of the San Diego State Sociology Department. The project was a NSF funded REU, and focused on developing a set of computer technologies and tools to prevent future workforce crises. This was an interdisciplinary project that combined the disciplines of computer science/engineering, sociology, business, and industry experiences.
Project title: “SCC-PG: Building an Integrative Community Platform to Alleviate the Workforce Aging Crisis"
(Feb 2021 - May 2021)
I was involved in research through the San Diego State University special Education Department. I worked with two M.A. students (Michelle Ortega and Leah Bachsbaum) under the guidance of Dr. Melina Melgarejo. Our project aimed to understand the perceptions and accessibility of Bilingual Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services for adolescents diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This research involved provider and parent perspectives on Bilingualism, and trying to encourage Linguistic Diverse ABA therapy (therapy given in Bilingual family’s main language on top of the English services already being provided). I worked to create surveys for parents and providers of ABA services, researched who to send them to, and analyzed the data found through our surveys.
